Make Bootcut Jeans into Skinny Jeans (and hem them too!)
My friend Martina (from my high school youth group!) is super-crazy-awesome in lots of ways, but today she entered a whole new category of super-crazy-awesome.
She altered a pair of bootcut jeans to become skinny jeans!

I mean, who does that???? Answer: Martina.
I will confess that I’m very new to the world of the skinny jean and still lean heavily on the bootcut jeans in my wardrobe for day-to-day. But I recently got a pair of the skinnies and kinda like them with my tall boots for a date night or something.
So if there are any of you who’ve been resistant to try it, but have a pair of old bootcut jeans around and a sewing machine, you could do this for free! (So then if you never quite get to the point of being able to wear them out of the house, at least you didn’t drop any money on them!)
Do you think you’d try this???

This. Exactly this. Andrea is gone tonight so I’m going to alter all my boot cut jeans. I’ll surprise her with them the next time we have a date night. I’ll wear my tall cowboy boots too! Super cute!
Thanks Molly!
I hate you Zach Wartes.
If I knew how to sew I would totally try this….where is this friend of yours and can I have her do up a pair of mine?! :)
totally doing this. i have at least two perfect candidates hanging forlornly in my closet right now.
oh but p.s., i’ve never sewed denim before. do i need a special needle?
I’ve done it with stretchy corduroys and khakis but not jeans yet. I have a pair of skinny jeans and I still like my flared jeans!
This is what I have been doing for the past 2 years…..at least up until the thrift store started getting the skinny jeans in! It’s super easy – even for me. :)
I wouldn’t do it because everytime I used my sewing machine it stopped working so I gave it back to my mom. And skinny jeans make my hips look even bigger- no thanks!
The wannabe seamstress in me is dying to go get my old jeans and start sewing. One day, I WILL try this…oh, yes. Probably at night so my 4 kids won’t burn the house down while I sew. Thanks for posting it. I am so going to pin it now :)
I love skinny jeans. They make me feel foxy and very un-mommy. I will have to use this trick. The last time I tried on a pair of skinny jeans they were so tight on my calves that they looked a little painted on. Oh the suffering that comes from running.
I would actually like to know how to have that person’s thighs more than I would like to have a pair of skinny jeans. But maybe if I had those legs I would know the gloriousness of having skinny jeans………thoughts to ponder while I sit on the couch not eating after 5 long weeks of dieting…………………..
Hey Molly!
I DID try this and it worked really well. Here is what the process looked like (with a little help from my puppy)….
