I Like You People. You’re Nice.

I had no way of knowing that asking a simple question about hand moisturizing would yield such response! Wow, y’all really came through on that one.

WORLD LEADERS! BE ADVISED!…you need some help out of a jam you’re in? Just ask a bunch of women.

(We would at least have lots to say about how they should deal with their dry hands anyway… And who doesn’t need help with that? Come ON!)

It just struck me funny that response came out of the woodwork! And the more I reflected on it, it reminded me of a couple things about people:

  • They generally like to be helpful.
  • They love to tell their experiences.

Isn’t that what communities do? They help each other and share their stories. Most times, they help each other by sharing their stories.

But seriously… I’m thankful for this little (maybe not so little?) community here. You all wanted to help me with my dry hands. It’s sweet. It really is. Thank you.

I hope you got as much help as I did from those answers. May we all have healthy hands this winter!

Who knows what we’ll help each other with next?

As the mother of and daughter of guys with major eczema, I read every comment scouring for all the golden nuggets that I could find! From what I’ve experienced, nothing works ALL of the time so having an arsenal of remedies is great! :-)

Have you looked into Apple Valley Natural Soaps? I love their products. The owner started the business because of skin problems in her family.

The thing I have found most helpful is to apply Bacitracin or Neosporin on my trouble spots (most of which are right beside my fingernails in the colder weather)and then of course trap the Bacitracin/Neosporin, either inside a bandaid or I suppose maybe those special gloves would keep the Bacitracin/neosporin in. In general, I resort to doing much if not all kitchen work with my hands cloaked in disposable gloves (available at CUB or drugstores). Definitely not glamorous, but hey it works.

Hey! I am coming back to comment on your dry hands post after reading lots of the comments and trying to figure out what to do for my own hands. My hands were in horrible shape–cracked and bleeding kind of bad shape. I’d get one big crack to heal just for more would pop up. I had tried all kinds of lotions and over the counter hydrocortisone cream to no avail. I finally asked my allergy dr what to do. She put me on a RX hydrocortisone ointment and told me to use Vanicream lotion. Vanicream is THE BEST lotion I’ve ever used. There is nothing in it to aggravate your skin…it’s the gentlest of gentle. It lasts through hand washes like no other lotion/ointment/cream I’ve ever used. Seriously, it’s that good. I found it at Target. They had one bottle behind the pharmacy counter (it’s not rx, they just don’t normally carry it so only have one or will order it for you for the next day). I recommended it to a friend who is a nurse and has to use the sanitizer foam after entering and exiting a patients room and had really bad eczema as well and now she’s in love with it too. Both our hands have cleared up, and she’s not even on the steroid cream! It’s amazing! Oh, and just make sure you really enunciate “Vanicream” to the pharmacy tech. Mine thought I said “Fanny Cream” and turned to her co-workers and asked quite loudly where the fanny cream was. Blush. :) Hope this helps!
