Rain Renegades
One night while we were in Denver we had a pretty insane amount of rain. Orison came bolting out to the garage, where Abraham and I were sitting to watch the crazy downpour. He was worried about a flash flood. We calmed him down, then asked him to sit with us awhile. He of course was very eager, because that meant getting to stay up after his bed time.
After sitting there for a few minutes watching the rain fall in sheets, Abraham said, “We’re gonna regret it if we don’t go out in this.”
So he grabbed his little sidekick and off they went running and jumping down the street. The water was flowing down the street like a river! Definitely memorable.

I love how vacation reminds you to lighten up a little. Let the kid stay up later. Enjoy the rainfall. Maybe even go play in it. I hope I can bottle up whatever that is about vacation and take it home with me!

I used to work at a christian summer camp… before that i was a camper there, and some of my best and favorite memories are spent with the counselors or campers playing in the midsummer rain storms. something about doing something out of the ordinary is amazing! :)
Love this post! We’re going on a family vacation next weekend and my 7 year old niece will be there – I can’t wait to make some fun memories with her! If it rains we might just go out and dance in it! :)
LOVE this!! What a blessing to enjoy the rain together. So glad that you guys made it a fun memory. These types of things are what kids remember and cherish. This made my heart happy… even though I didn’t get to play in the rain. Enjoy sweet family time together on the rest of your vacation!
May have been the same rain storm that we went playing in the gutters too! We used milk crates as boats! Love when the rain falls like that. Plus trips to Denver are always fun!
That was so great. Orison was having the time of his life right there I’m sure. Way to go dad!
Molly!!! I was in Denver for that same rainstorm – it was incredible!! I was at the Ronald McDonald house because my newborn was in the hospital (he was born 7 weeks early). My husband and I sat on the (covered) porch and marveled at the display in nature as we marveled at the same time the power God had been displaying in our own life and the life of our son! I am glad that you and your family were able to experience those showers (of nature and of blessing) as well!
