Summer is just flying by!
Is it just me, or is summer flying by?

We’ve been having a really good summer so far, but man, is it going FAST!
Here’s the line-up for the coming weeks
- Insane as this sounds, I’m doing a yard sale this Saturday. I’ve never done one before! I’m doing the yard sale to pay for gas for our upcoming adventures!
- Insane as this sounds, we’re going to be spending a couple weeks in Denver in July. That means a 14-hour drive with four small children. Thankfully Miss Katie will come with us, and she & I will explore Colorado while Abraham works (the new company he works for is based out of Denver and he’d have to be there anyway, so we figured we’d all go)! God has totally hooked us up with a free house to stay in, so we’re really excited. I’ve never been to Colorado before!
- And then, if we weren’t insane enough from the Denver trip, we’re going to do a quick turnaround in Minneapolis, then drive 14 hours the other way to Pennsylvania to see my family and friends there. I’m just thrilled about this, because we haven’t been there since Christmas 2009 when I found out I was pregnant. A few months later we found out it was twins, and we haven’t gone anywhere since. Oh man, it’s gonna be so crazy and so fun! I love going to Erie, Pennsylvania.
Adventures abound as we fly through summer!
What are your adventurous summer plans?

That is a rad picture of Orison!
Summer plans? Lots of visitors coming our way in July, then we go to the beach in North Carolina in August.
Have fun in Colorado! It’s an awesome state.
One of our adventures is a trip to Erie, too! We’re heading there next week to spend 6 days with my family. We’re also doing a lake trip in Michigan with our home group.
And yes, summer is flying by!
Have fun on the road..Colorado is beautiful!
oh, how i miss colorado! hands down, one of my most favorite places i’ve ever lived. say hi to the mountains for me! :)
I didn’t know this is going to be your first sale!! I’ve hosted several – even a few church-wide sales. I wrote up a little ‘how to’ on my organizing site, if you’re interested. hope you sell a TON!

For Orison, summer might fly by. But for the rest of us in the family, I think it will be driving by.

You will love, love, love Colorado! We do.
Awesome pic!! :)
We might be driving to Colorado in July too – a combined work trip and visit with family. We haven’t ever done a real road trip with the kids (unless you count Grand Marais), but in a sick way, I’m looking forward to it. I think I’m just bored and ready for an adventure.
We are also planning a trip to Seattle in August (not driving that one) to attend Corey’s company’s annual summer picnic. I’m very excited about that, even though I have no idea how I’ll contain our one-year-old on the plane.
hi there…
as newbies to colorado (we moved to littleton in january from pittsburgh…not far from erie!) with three little kids and one on the way, i just wanted to pass along our favorite places so far that are fun with kids and generally free or low cost! my favorites! :)
- estes park and rocky mountain national park – lots of just simple exploring, wildlife, browsing shops and eating snacks in estes….$20 to get into rmnp per carload.
- boulder festivals or just simple browsing on the weekends with street performers on pearl street
- town of golden – just west of denver….we love this little part of town…lots of little shops and homemade ice cream, you can walk along the river on a sidewalk, there are chickens the kids can check out, if the water is not too high, there is a slide that goes from the upper part of the sidewalk down to the river…and on saturdays they have a really fun farmers market with free horsedrawn carriage rides!
- red rocks amphitheatre and park – this is just worth the very short drive to check out the area….not for an actual concert….great park to drive through and get out and see the stage area….with the interest you guys seem to have in music, you’d love the visitors center too
- near to red rocks – a little bit west past the entrance….maybe 4 miles or so, there is an entrance to lair o’ the bear on the left hand side….great simple trail to walk with the kids…along a flowing creek….lots of shade (which is hard to find in this part of the country!)….great place for a picnic and a short stroll
- downtown denver – it is fun to just walk along 16th street mall during the day….and there is an area near the big rei store that is called confluence park which has a very small beach area and a shallow part of the river where the kids play in it (we have not done this yet but my husband sees this every day on his way to work)
- the nature and science center is fun with little spots for younger kids throughout….the zoo is nice…..(if you make a road trip to co springs about 1.5 hour south of downtown you can feed giraffes at their zoo which is way cool….and/or take the cog railway to the top of pikes peak)….there is a place called the butterfly pavilion which is nice (a little north of downtown)….children’s museum is ok…..none of these things are free!
- pick up a colorado parent magazine when you get into town and check out all of the free activities they have for families and kids….lots of festivals, nature centers with preschooler programs, family events….
i have taken the mindset of being a tourist while here to really enjoy and take advantage of the area so that i don’t miss the trees and ‘real’ rivers back east too much! i am sure for a visit you guys will love it here! feel free to email me (shannon underscore clubb at yahoo dot com) for any more tips on the area depending on where you are staying! baby #4 is due within a month….so i might be a bit preoccupied but am happy to share any other insight or local tips that i have come across in our short time here so far!
Another idea for Denver is Mt. Evans. It is about a half hour outside Denver. It’s a national park, so costs 10 bucks, at least back in 2008.
It is the highest paved road in the northern hemisphere. You can drive all the way up to 14,000+feet and they are some amazing views. You can hike up another 100-200 feet to the peak. It was gorgeous.
Here’s a picture from the top.

I was in Denver last summer. It’s so beautiful in the summer. Try to check out the Denver Zoo while you’re there. The kids will LOVE it. (and the adults will too!) Hope you have a great trip!
xoxo
I’m in south Denver – Centennial. It’s HOT here right now so I hope you can get to the mountains or a pool. What part of town are you staying in?
I’m at http://imaginationsoup.net if you want to connect. :)
Have a great trip!
I live here in Denver…don’t know where in town you’re staying, but if you need to beat the heat for free, Stapleton (a few miles East of City Park) has 2 great fountain options. One is just East of Quebec & 29th Ave, the other is at Central Park (one of the best playgrounds in the city, in my opinion).
If you come to my neighborhood, I’d love to meet you! But that’s probably weird…
