Two crawling babies!

This video will probably be of interest mostly to my parents, who were just here for a visit, but left before Cadence started to crawl. My mom worked and worked with her to get her up on hands and knees and cheer her on, but she just didn’t want to do it then!

So, here you go mom & dad! Cadence is a crawler! She’s really funny, because when she really gets going for a longer stretch, her arms and legs look like they’re moving fast (kind of like a shuffling motion), but then she’s just as slow as ever!

Whit’s been crawling for a month and a half now, so he’s Mister Cruiser. That’s why I (jokingly) told him he was “old news.” He’s going to walk anytime now, I think. SCARY!

(DISCLAIMER: When I made this video I wasn’t thinking I’d put it on my blog, so I talk and talk all the way through it, and I hate hearing my voice on video. Just try to ignore me. :) Thank you.)

Some days I feel so overwhelmed with twins. You know those people who wistfully say, “I’ve always wanted twins…”? Sometimes (most times) I want to just ask them: “Are you drunk?” But yesterday I was feeling so giddy and excited about these two babies. I felt like I was able to just enjoy all the craziness they bring to life. And they played really well on their own yesterday, too–major praise!

Last week Cadence had bad diaper rash (something none of my other kids have ever had), and that just made for such a hectic week. I tell people: “If my life operates at baseline (nothing really happening out of the ordinary), then I’m okay. But throw any kind of wrench into that and I’m sunk (fever, diaper rash, trying to potty train Morrow, making phone calls to doctors/insurance).” The doctor told us, “Just let her go without a diaper as much as possible.” While I understood her rationale, I just felt like screaming, “DON’T YOU KNOW THERE’S TWO OF THEM?!?!?”

Alright, my day must begin. I feel like those people on the Pyramid game show hoping for “No whammies, no whammies, no whammies!!!”

Cute video! Way to go Cadence!

My Dr. gave me an awesome diaper rash concoction. I tell you, it’s magic.

Equal parts: Desitin, hydra-cortisone cream, anti-fungal cream, and Neosporin (or something equivalent). I do a tablespoon of each and mix them together in a little tupperware. It really relieves the discomfort for the baby. All those ointments are a bit expensive, but it clears up diaper rash SO QUICK!

For the record – ‘No Whammies’ is from ‘Press Your Luck.’

Very cute Molly… BTW, I think you were one of those people I thought was “drunk” when you said you wanted twins – B-E-F-O-R-E you were pregnant with twins :) I think that 3 is the magical age… ok, it’s not magical at all but it starts to get a bit easier.

Their Grandmother Noel (a “few” years ago!) used to drag along in her dresses on her fat little tummy, without really crawling on her all fours. (Yes,little girls wore dresses then, even when at home! Onesies were not invented yet.) So I had to fight their “tattle tale tummy gray”. But then she just went from tummy to standing, reaching, and all that goes with that!!

I think twins are just so fascinating to those of us on the “outside,” especially those who don’t have kids yet. My mom always said if she had twins she’d give one away. She wasn’t joking and thankfully God never tested her on this… So kudos to you! :)

My boys are cracking up at Whit trying to eat the tag at the end of the video!! That expression!! To cute!

It looks like they are trying to learn to share. They just keep passing the ball back and forth. I love it!

I admit, I am one of those crazies who has always wanted twins, and since my dad is a twin, I thought maybe??!! But my sis-in-law and brother have triplets, and after watching them chase three little two year olds has given a little more reality to my fantasy.

It’s so good to see your babies, they are just dolls!!

I have twin boys that are almost 2. I have loved, loved having twins! It is SO crazy most of the time though:) I understand completely your comment about there being 2 babies. I think that a lot! It’s one of those things no one can understand or give advice unless they have had twins themselves.

  10. With my oldest I had a scan to see if it was twins (it wasn’t, I was just gi-normous.) I remember at first feeling a little disappointed that it wasn’t. Now I know I just couldn’t have done it! Your twins are absolutely gorgeous, Molly! And you are a strong strong girl!

Aw I’m so proud of Cadence!! What a sweet little girly. :)

I have two boys, 7 and 2 1/2, and have been watching 3 little girls full time this school year. Two of the girls are 14 months (I got them when they were 6 months, and the other girl is a month older than my youngest. I SO relate to you when you said that when your life operates at base line, you’re fine. It’s been nearly the most intense year of my life, and thankfully the two hardest girls are going else where for care next school year, and I’ll be left with the quieter but sassy one. I appreciate the amount of work having two sets of twins is, although my job with all of them is only 9 hours a day. Kudos to YOU! Love your blog!! Big supporter of the Piper clan!

Love when Whit found the tag on the ball : ) Too fun, Molly!

I love reading your blog! I have twins that just turned 3 (yikes!!) and we *just* transitioned them out of their crib. Anyway — I find it funny how people actually ask, “Were the twins harder babies than the older 2?” How they have no clue! Just like you said, if they were each singletons they’d have been easy peasy, but THERE ARE 2!! :) I’d like to suggest a diaper cream. If the rash isn’t fungal, an all natural cream is olive oil and corn starch mixed to the consistency you want. I didn’t discover it till teething rashes with my twins and it amazing cleared up any rash so much quicker than any mixture of any other chemical diaper rash cream.

I had a kid with awful diaper rash and we used BagBalm. Ugly stuff, stunk like it did belong in a barn, but it could cure the worst bleeding diaper rash in no time flat. Loved it.
