Twin Survival Tip #6: Easier bathing
Right now, I’m really digging doing baths like this.

If you have double sinks and Bumbo seats, give it a try! It’s also nice if you have a sprayer, but not necessary. This would also work just fine for a single baby too, of course, but it just seems to be especially helpful for me these days with two.
You’ll get your shirt a little wet lifting them out to get their behinds, but you save your back, not bending over the tub–it’s the trade-off. There’s always a trade-off, right?
I always have their towels, washcloths, diapers, lotion, and clothes all collected and ready for after the bath, too. That way they (hopefully) are less fussy afterward.
Any bathing tips for twins? Please share!

What cuteness!
My twins are three months old as of last week, and still working on holding their heads up well enough to use the Bumbo seats. I have two in my dining room, just waiting…
:-D Thanks for the tip! I’m looking forward to being able to try this; otherwise, it’s one at a time in the baby-tub because we only have a shower right now.
It will be great fun for them to take baths in the real tub together when they get a little older and are able to play a little more wildly. Of course, you or Abraham might have to wear a raincoat to be in the bathroom with them.
Here’s a little story: Two of my daughters, who are fairly close in age, used to take baths together when they were young. My daughters also knew I grew up in a family with seven brothers and sisters. I think it was during one of my daughters’ bath times together that one asked me, “but dad, when you were growing up how did you all fit in the tub?” Then I realized that she imagined up to eight little kids in the tub together when I was growing up (not thinking that our birthdays were spread over 16 years)! I found the comment hilarious.
Wow, use a bumbo?! Wish I would’ve thought about that a few months ago. My guy is now 9 months, but when he was smaller he hated laying down in the little baby tub thing we have. He loved his bumbo, though. Dang. Glad you found that! Awesome idea for even moms of singles.
My friend used laundry baskets in the tub when they were older. It kept them from falling far and gave them something to hang on to.
And it was during a bath that her nine month old girl got a puzzled look on her face, stared, then leaned over and grabbed by nine month old son’s appendage that she did not have! Ha!
Oh my word. That’s the cutest picture I’ve ever seen. This isn’t helping me in my efforts to not kidnap my friends’ children :)
I’ve started finding that this is the absolute best way to bathe Chloe right now. She is so mobile that putting her in the big tub is just so dangerous as she wants to stand up, crawl around, etc. I have to get in their with her and its too hard.
I’ve been doing kitchen sink baths for the last few weeks and they are so much easier on the back, etc! of course she doesn’t need hte bumbo anymore.
such a cute picture!
Molly, it is like you read my mind! I was wondering yesterday if the material Bumbos are made out of would work well as a little bath seat. It has been confirmed. In the next months, I am sure I will be using this! =-)
For some reason I can’t see the picture, no matter what browser I try. Sad!
Fixed. Sorry about that!
Darling photo! Thanks for a current one of both. Cadence is quite the chunky monkey – so cute! And I’m always amazed at how different from each other they look, different eyes, hair, face shape… Yeah, good thing I’m not closer, I might eat them up! ;)
I don’t have twins, but I think you’re a genius. I wish they’d had bumbo seats when my kids were babies!
you could wear an apron so you don’t get your shirt wet!
good idea! and you could MAKE one out of oil cloth even. because you have so much time on your hands, right?
What a great idea. The darling picture isn’t showing up for me, so I’ll have to check back when it “reappears”.
What an adorable picture! I’m also a big fan of bathing little ones in the sink; I’d much prefer a wet shirt to an aching back (besides, there’s always aprons!)
Thanks for sharing this cute tip :)
LOL! Too cute! We adopted infants six weeks apart so while they aren’t biological twins, practically speaking we have twins! We’re crazy enough to love it! : )
We bathe them together b/c they love playing, but your idea is fun, fun and cute!
Such sweet babies!
My little one loves his baby bathtub, but that is one of the most adorable pictures ever!
I REALLY love this. oh my…
I had trouble seeing the photo when I was on the post’s comment page, but when I clicked back to Molly’s main page the photo was there with no problems.
Oh and the pic is like looking at what John and Noel might have looked like as babies. =)
I tried this with my twins in the bath tub. Bad move, as the bumbos float. I wish I would’ve thought of the sink, that’s a grand idea! Instead I had two very slippery kiddos to keep upright, bathing was quite a memorable, messy event!
Yeah, it kinda wedges down into the sink very nicely! :)
oh, this brought a huge smile to my face!
Just don;t put the bumbo in a tub with water in it. Seems like a good idea, but the whole time it tries to float up and then dump your baby out! :) This is WAY cute and a WAY good idea.
But you could use it in the bath tub, just don’t fill the tub. For more of a rinse-down, quickie bath.
I didn’t have the floating problem. I guess my babe is too chunky :D She could grab her brother and sort-of glide across the bottom of the tub though.
Still wish I’d thought of the sink idea….my poor back, lol.
Bathing my twin boys was always the bane of my existence. Don’t know why. I guess cause I had to do it twice. Never figured out anything this nifty though! I was just happy when I could give them a bath in the tub together. Of course, once they get older then can wrestle and you water water everywhere!
Genius Molly! I did the sink thing once, but was not smart enough to use the bumbos, so I just had to make sure that they were well propped. It wasn’t my smartest idea, but man was it cute! I don’t have any bathing tips, but I loved bath time once they were able to sit up well on their own. It’s so fun to just throw them both in there now and let them play. Everyone is happy as long as the water stays warm!
Hi Molly,
Not a mother of twins, but a mother of four who no longer need help with their baths! Haha They are 23,22,19 and 11. What a great idea. Love your blog, your children are adorable. Thanks for sharing with all of us.
I wish I had thought of that!! My twin girlies are 2 1/2 now — wish I had thought of that then!!
i think his is the cutest bath photo i have ever seen!! aren’t you clever! necessit ybeing the mother of invention and all…
That pic of your cuties in the sink just made my day! Thanks!
A tip for saving the shirt from wetness when getting them out: drape your front with towel(s)– they can be baby towels or “big people” towels and then get another towel ready for the baby once you are holding him/her/them. See? A baby sandwich–towels are the bread. And you don’t get as wet.
Twins Survival Tip #7: Take turns giving one of the twins to your friend down the street (one week at a time?) so she can soak up their cuteness!
This is so precious! I wish I had thought of that while my little one was small enough to still fit in the sink!!
You could wear a bathrobe to prevent the wet shirt! Really cute.
What did you do when they were smaller and couldn’t hold their heads up? Just curious, I have four boys and bath nite is a little tedious (my youngest two are twin boys, almost four months old).
What a GREAT idea! I’m currently 23 wks pregnant with b/g twins and am enjoying your blog to help me prepare for what is in store for me! I will definitely have to remember this your tips! Thanks for sharing.
Oh what great memories! I loved bathing my kids in the kitchen sink and I could always get so much done within 2 feet of them while they soaked and played. Beautiful kids!
When my boy/girl twins were around 9 months, we would put 2 laundry baskets in the tub, and put each of them in one. The baskets made it less slippery and they had something to grip onto.
That’s a super idea! Thanks for sharing! I’ll be sure to let my friend (who is pregnant with triplets) know! :)
