Getting a Nanny and Monetizing the Blog
I’m very excited to announce that, starting tonight, we will have live-in help with the kids! One of the best babysitters we’ve ever used will be moving in with us and helping with childcare a couple hours a day.
And not only is she great with our kids, she also loves to knit and watch the Pride & Prejudice miniseries. I’m expecting this arrangement to work out pretty great.
On a practical note, one of the ways that Abraham and I are affording a nanny is by putting a bit more effort into making a little money from our sites.
A really easy and free way you could help, if you want to, is to do your Amazon shopping through links at this blog. We’re a part of their affiliate program so that whenever you click through to Amazon and buy something, we make a small percentage of what you spend.
I’ve put a link on the sidebar to make it easy to find, if you’re ever interested.
I’m not going to make this site about making money, of course, but I know some of you love shopping and love me, so this is a good way to combine those two things. :)
Thanks a lot for supporting this site! You all are the best.

We will definitely start shopping through your site. We buy often from Amazon. We’d love to help out in this way. Glad you guys are getting some good help. We love you guys.
I wish I had known this, I buy things through Amazon all the time and just recently purchased a few hundred dollars worth. I will definitely start doing this from now on – :)
Oh and congrats on the nanny – that is WONDERFUL!
And we love Katie!
eeeeeee! I think I’m as excited as you! Ps: I’m also on the Piper Amazon train.
What fun! I wish I was in Minneapolis just to enjoy you all. I guess I’ll have to continue through the blog. Thanks for the nice explanation!
Miss ya all.
You like P&P, have you tried Cranford?

Clicked on your ad and actually found out about what looks like a fun show on this Saturday. First ad ever and it’s relevant. Nice work :)
We got a gift card to Amazon for Christmas (actually Roger got TWO) and we both have big wish lists there… I’ll make it known to click through here first!
You can also be an affiliate with ERGO carriers! (DO IT!)
And perhaps get some advertising from heavenlyhold.com
(((HUGS)))
To say I’m a *tad* jealous… well… you deserve it. Enjoy! I’m so excited for you!
That’s great! We had a young single woman live with us last year and it was great…now she lives in our rental with some roomies. One of our favorite parts (once we were rested enough) was taking LONG dates. We’d leave at 5 or 5:30, she would cook dinner, put the kids all down for bed and sometimes we’d stay out late. She still comes to babysit a couple of times a month. One blessing she’s expressed to us is the opportunity to live day in and day out with a family, an opportunity for a Titus 2 relationship. Our family was encouraged by her faith, zeal, energy and youthfulness. It was neat to see her live her life in college ministry and our kids asked a lot of questions about why she was telling other people about Jesus.
Grace! I pray this will be a refreshing, mutually encouraging time in your lives.
i’d love to help yall out! and i’m just curious – does it have to be a specific product from amazon, or if i just come here and click through to amazon and find something it still works? does that even make sense?
Yes, that makes sense, and the answer is that you do not need to buy something in specific. Any purchase after clicking through counts.
Thanks a lot!
Are you sure you have the links right? I clicked on it and my status bar just says http://www.amazon.com; if I click from my site (to check) it shows my id number also…maybe it just depends on from where you click, but maybe you oughta double check?
Thanks… Looking into it.
Same issue here. When clicking the buy something link at the top, I get a generic http://www.amazon.com, but if I scroll down and click under where the books are located, I do get some referral codes in the address bar.
We do a LOT of buying w/Amazon, so hope we can help you guys out!! And, sooo jealous on live-in help. What a blessing!!
It’s the correct link… It just redirects to the main page. Thanks!
What brilliant news! Fab decision and I really hope she makes a Huge difference to you and you to her! I’m a uk reader so get stuff from amazon.co.uk – is there anyway it works for me? Sorry – don’t suppose you’d planned to be tech support. X
So excited to hear about the help you’ll be getting! I will shop through here from now on!
Do you know if the Amazon thing still works if I click through to another Amazon site from Amazon.com? When I go on Amazon.com, it automatically recognises my location and offers a link to Amazon Germany, but would the affiliate programme extend to that?
I don’t think it does work. I could be mistaken, but I think each different Amazon site has their own affiliate program.
Thanks though!
Thanks for checking!
I just helped! :D
I’m assuming this won’t work on things already purchased? I remember Abraham linking to Amazon on his blog but forgot to go through it yesterday. Since I knew, but forgot, any chance they’d give you guys the credit? Just thought I’d ask!
Hi Molly!
How wonderful that you’re going to have an extra set of hands!
I’ve also been considering partnering with Amazon, but was unsure about the safety of giving S.S. # via their website. Did you do this? Do you feel it is a secure network for that?
I’ve got an account set up and everything, just need to finish that tax stuff up. Would love to know your opinion.

Just bought Rog’s birthday present! I hope the click-though worked!
Molly, I love your blog and Abraham’s too! I just bought my Kindle through your click through! Hope it worked! Keep pictures of those 4 cute kids coming!
Quick question, does it count if I put my stuff in my cart and then click through your site to make my purchase? Or do I have to click through, add items and then purchase? Does that make any sense?
Thanks, hope to be able to help!
Darn! (Can I say that word on a blog??) I JUST purchased a bunch of stuff from Amazon. Next time! Good to keep up with you through your blog – I just love reading about you and your kids… The Lord bless you all!
Molly,
My husband is a pastor in NYC and we have a 4 year old and 2 year old twins. We live in a small apartment but last year we invited 2 girls to come live with us and help us with our kids. They worked for us part time and had outside jobs the other days. We offered them free room and board and meals. What we actually paid them was very little, but they didn’t have many outside expenses. It had it’s challenges, but the pay off for the help I had with my kids was so worth it. I hope your experience is refreshing for you!
