You know birth is imminent when…
When I was pregnant with my first, a good friend told me a funny way to know how close your due date is:
Look at the date on the milk carton.
When she was having her first baby, it was what officially freaked her out. She looked at the date on the milk and it was dated for after her due date!
I have since marked the coming of all my babies by noting the dates on the perishables. Thank you, Liz.
Today it was the milk. It’s dated for August 2nd (my official induction date). Here’s hoping we make the 2 gallons I bought stretch until then, because I’m not feeling the whole grocery shopping thing right about now!
The sour cream doesn’t turn until after August 12th. Hopefully our babies will be 10 days old by then!
Okay, I’m officially freaked out.

Yes! I just put milk in the fridge and thought, “Wow, pretty soon, I’ll be checking those dates like they’re a countdown…” I’ve still got 8 weeks or so to go, but I remember doing that with my first, because a friend had mentioned it to me. Funny how these things get shared.
Hi Molly! I have been following your blog for quite a while and felt compelled to post today (fancy way of saying I read your blog via google reader and am usually way too lazy to click over to post.) I am pregnant as well and due in August with only one though :), I hope and pray all goes smoothly for you, the babies, and the whole family! I am now off the check the date of our milk!

Funny. I did that with shampoo for some odd reason. The next time I replace this mammoth shampoo will be after the baby comes. Weird. Thanks for sharing all you do with us. Amazing to see how God is and has worked in the hard and the good, and the good hard things He’s given you guys.
Interesting! I’m 4 days past my due date with my first and the milk carton says July 25th. (Ironically, this is also Parent’s Day). We’ll see.
I was just washed away with emotion. By the time the milk I bought today expires, your babies will be here… and my baby will be almost 2 weeks old. Oh My Gosh.
Many prayers for the Pipers!
Praying for you, friend!! I’m sooooooo excited for you! And can’t wait to see pics of these beautiful new little people!
Praying for you guys! It’s been such a story of God’s grace and mercy to you and your family, and I appreciate your honesty and openness in sharing yourself with us! Can’t wait to hear the good news and see pics!
AWWW! So great! when you say it that way you are due really soon!! I can’t wait for you! so excited! hope you are staying cool this summer!
Ha! Speaking as someone due WAY over in November, I looked at the expiry date on the cream-cheese today and thought, “August 30th? That’s LOTS of time.” ;)
Praying for you and your family all the time, Molly – hugs. :)
I can’t believe I never did this, seeing as my family fixates on food. But I have always been shocked-into-reality by dates discussed on the radio. I still remember the March day when KTIS started advertising the Family Fun Fest in June. “The baby will be like a month old then!”
I remain SO EXCITED for you. Please tell me you and/or Abraham will be Tweeting the birth.
I can’t believe it! Hang in there! H
How exciting!
Blessings to you!
I’m cracking up over here Molly. I just went through the same thing with the birth of my 2nd surprise in 2 years… and blogged about it a couple months back. It truly is amazing how fast time flies. http://calminmychaos.blogspot.com/2010/03/oh-dear.html
Here’s a verse for you too that greatly has ministered to me in this last crazy, chaotic, but oh so rich, year.
“He tends His flock like a Shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young.” Isaiah 40:11
We just gave birth to our second baby boy. Your posts about pregnancies and birth are hilarious and close to heart. Thank you.
Come, babies, come! You are so loved and wanted, even before you came to be.
YAY! So exciting! You guys will do awesome with Twins. Do you have some help lined up?
Just looked at my yogurt. August 2nd! I can’t believe you are so close! So exciting.
This is hilarious and thrilling and making me hungry!!
All my love and prayers for the next few weeks, Molly!!
I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now, as someone recommended it to me after I miscarried in Dec of ’09. What an encouragement you are to me, though you don’t even know me or I you. I think that is what the body of Christ does – brings us together in very special ways, even at a distance. Thank you for allowing me to be encouraged by you! I’m so excited for the additions to your family! Blessings,

I’m a physician who just had her first baby. I do deliveries as well as take care of newborns in the hospital and it was really strange to be fairly pregnant and delivering babies who were due around the same time or after mine and examining newborns with due dates after mine. That really made it sink in.
