Name that Candy: The Answer You’ve All Been Waiting For
For those of you who guessed these:
You win!*
Ahhh, Marshmallow Peeps. I eat them once a year, mostly for nostalgic purposes. I was always a fan of Peeps as a child, the fresher the better. My sister liked hers stale, and I can’t remember how my brother took his Peeps.
And for those of you interested, I thought I’d link to a series of photographs showing how Peeps are made (in my home state of Pennsylvania, thank you very much).

Years ago I saw a mini-doc. on how peeps are made. Coolest thing ever! The machine that squeezes out the marshmallow, then the winds of colored sugar blowing all over the peeps…love it! I have dreams of colored sugar blowing everywhere…
I love peeps and they are better stale!
Would you think me heretical if I said I felt like I was missing out on something this Easter because it didn’t include any Sarris’ candy? Did yinz have that in Erie?
Yum. In honor of this post I just went up at ate a sparkly penguin. :)
Wow! I never win anything. It’s a major award!
Oh, I can’t believe I didn’t figure that out; I love peeps. I even have the Marshmallow Peeps Sing-Along cd (it was a gift).
Anyway, apparently you can make your own, http://www.marthastewart.com/article/homemade-easter-treats but I’ve never tried it
Is that what makes us Pennsylvanians through and through? Our love of peeps… mostly for nostalgic reasons?
I actually like the bunnies better, maybe because they’re smaller and easier to eat in one bite. And my favorite color is pink. The fresher the better, although I have been known to, in a candy-driven state of mania, eat stale peeps. It all depends on how badly I need sweet.
Right now, I can tell you I didn’t have any peeps yet, or any of the rest of my Easter candy. I’m just not in a candy mood. Think it will keep until August?
Another good use for peeps? Bribes for pottying. Ian’s been getting a peep or peep bunny for each BM in the potty. He’s happy, I’m happy, the peeps are happy… ;-)
That is funny because this morning my 3 1/2 year-old said, ‘Mommy, can I have one of those orange penguins?’
An older, fun website about peeps: http://www.peepresearch.org/index.html
They DO look like sparkly penguins!
Now I feel as though I have deprived my twins since I didn’t get them any this year (and never have) though I loved them as a kid. I might have to go out and get them some 75% off sale-priced peeps. Enjoy them for your little twin “peeps”.
Molly,
I love your blog. It always makes me feel good. I found it one day last summer while looking for the name of the new Waldemeer ride. I googled and found you through a post you did on working there as a summer job. LOL I think it was fate. AND the fact that you love Peeps proves it. I love Peeps but prefer the pink over the yellow.
Amy from East Springfield PA
I LOVE that Orison referred to Peeps as “sparkling penguins”! It goes against all that I normally consume, but I too eat Peeps once a year for nostalgic purposes. I prefer the chicks over any other form. Something so satisfying about biting off their little heads…
haha : ) Oh, I remember you and Kristin both liked those! And Kristin liked hers stale. Yucko to any kind of peeps if you ask me ; )
