Our Baby Speaks International
Orison is Morrow’s personal speech and language coach. Morrow’s got a pretty good vocab going already, but I’m expecting drastic growth if their regular sessions continue.
Here’s a lesson overheard recently:
Orison: Morrow, say Mama.
Morrow: Ma-ma!
Orison: Morrow, say ball.
Morrow: Bau!
Orison: Morrow, say Daddy.
Morrow: Da-dee!
Orison: Morrow, say baby.
Morrow: Bay-bee!
Orison: Morrow, say international.
Morrow (much more uncertainly): na-na-na.
A couple weeks ago, they had a routine with animal sounds that they did. And you’ll see from the video, Orison’s not the only one quizzing him on his words. (I’m a speech pathologist! And Abraham’s a word freak, alright???)
I love Morrow’s complete lack of self-consciousness. He’ll try almost any word, especially if it’s presented by his beloved brother Orison.

SO sweet!!!
You have adorable children!
Your kids are precious. And I love that little protection Abraham gives Morrow at the end. So sweet.
ha ha. I should have all the wordies in your house come tutor Byron! he’s getting much clearer, but for awhile all the words sounded the same. (though they were clearly different in his mind). Ruth lately has reminded me so much of Orison’s many funny quotes that you guys have put up. She says hilarious things. I think it’s something about the age 4… it seems like that’s when Orison really started to be hysterical.
Molly, reading this hit my funny bone! I suppose it’s because we have the same thing going on over here. Except Zoe never thinks to have Lina try words like “international.” Thanks for the good laugh!
That’s so cute!
We all love our older brothers! Great post.
It looks cold in your house. We always used to keep the heat low in our house because it was cheaper to put on more clothes. One time I came home and Joe was trying to write a paper at the computer wearing gloves. I would love to feel some of that cold right now.
Oh yeah, and your kids are super cute.
My 2 year old loves this video! It made me laugh, too, because when she was just learning to talk she would repeat ANYTHING her big sister told her to say. The power of an older sibling!
My son (14m) has the little boots Orison is wearing! I haven’t seen any other kiddo with the same ones. At first I thought they were a little ridiculous looking but then I ended up buying some for myself that look very similar :) Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?
I was just going to comment that my daughter has the same boots too — wears them pretty much every day! :)
I am so glad to see a video of Morrow! Ben completely refuses to say Mama or anything related to me. However, he is completely obsessed with daddy and not only indentifies him as daddy, but lots of things associated with him as “daddy”, such as his suitcase (many business trips), mountain dew, and just about anything that Andy touches that doesnt already have a name. I guess that is what happens when your son’s name means “son of my right hand”!
That is so precious! And I love the “tissue plane,” too. :)
this is great :)
Morrow is so cute! We just taught our 2-year old a new word this weekend…”Lydia, say iPhone”
today has been a hard day, this made it a lot better.
Oh my. I’m laughing here. My six-year-old watched the video with me and was totally enthralled. And now he’s building Legos and saying to himself: “Say Papa. Papa! Say Nannie. Nannie!”
Kids are remarkable learners, especially when they are learning from their older siblings. Our two-year-old is speaking in clear sentences, thanks to her big brother and big sister.
SOOOOO CUTE! :)
From one speech therapist to another, I remember those days when I was waiting for my firstborn son to start talking. He didn’t really get to the one-word stage until just before 2 years. Sixteen years later we cannot get him to stop! Watching the miracle of language is sure precious.
Love watching your videos,
Liz in CA
so sweet!
Molly! I’m so excited about your wonderful news. Congratulations! Hope you’re feeling better soon. My morning sickness got progressively worse with each pregnancy. (At least, I *think* it did. Maybe it was just harder to keep going the more kids I had!) You know what really helped me? Watered-down lemonade. Really settled my tummy, and I wasn’t sure why–then after the fact I ready that lemons are sometimes considered a natural nausea aid. Hang in there!
We tried to get our daughter to say “Constantinople”
It was hilarious.
Very cute! I love it when our children parent the other children.
I chuckled at the comments about the boots. I can’t get shoes on my youngest at all!
It will be fun when he starts to say Minneapolis!
I remember watching a show about the Billy Graham Assoc. It had a segment about all of the mail that the office received. He was so well known that letters with almost any kind of address arrived safely to the office. On one of the envelopes, the address was listed as:
Billy Graham
Mini Apples, Mini Soda
That is so cute! Your dishwasher is cute too.
Our 16 month old thinks it’s awesome to stare at us when we play the “say…” game, looking at us like speaking is beneath her. Her favorite talking game is to say “dada” (one of her four words) when asked to say “mama” and then laugh hysterically. I think she figures her older chatty siblings can handle the talking for her. :)
I’ve just watched this about eight times in a row with my eighteen month old. He loves to say the noises and words with Morrow!
