I have two words that will change your life: Orly Bonder. You put it on before your nail polish and it will stay for 2-3 weeks for pedicures. Chips are my biggest pet peeve (weird, I know, but it's true). Make sure they always do two coats and use a good brand like OPI.

I usually pay an extra $5 and get a french pedicure. Then I touch up the white ends at home when they chip and I can get a good 6-8 weeks out of a pedicure.

I'm almost 28 and have never had one! Sorry your polish didn't last, but I hope you get to have another one in LESS than 30 years.

My toenails chip fairly quickly because I spend a good amount of time in a pool. I think it's either the water softens the bond or the fact that I'm knocking my toes on the bottom of the pool. I don't know if you went to the pool at all, but that might be the reason.

Hi Molly :)
I've been enjoying your blog lately.

I don't get pedicures very often, either, but aren't they wonderful? They are de rigeur in southern California! One of my friends yesterday was telling me that whenever she gets one, she also buys the bottle of polish, so that she can do touch-ups as necessary if she gets little chips. Another friend brings her own polish. I thought those were good ideas.

Funny, I have thought the same thing about foot-washing! You hear about girls getting together to give each-other manicures, but not usually pedicures! Maybe that could be a modern day version of foot-washing (for women). (and Jonathan :)).

I have had 2 pedicures in my life — a cheaper ($25ish) one when I was in a wedding in college and a pricier ($50-80ish) one before my wedding. If I remember right, the cheaper one chipped within a few days (but I was working at a camp that summer, so it was to be expected!). I don't remember exactly how long the one for my wedding lasted, but I don't think it was THAT long — however, I do know that I bought a bottle of the polish from the salon to use for "touch-ups". To me the best part of it all wasn't the color, though...just having my feet pampered was awesome & well worth the $$. Now I'm craving another one. I'm really self-conscious about my feet (mommyhood doesn't leave much time for tending to them very well). But two things are stopping me: 1). Like you, I can't seem to bring myself to spend the money, 2). This is silly, but I've heard of people developing bad staph infections from poorly sanitized pedicure instruments, and I'm a little paranoid! Does anyone else worry about this?

If they do it correctly, it shouldn't chip that quickly (unless you stub your toe, as somebody mentioned). The key is that they run an extra swipe of clear topcoat along and over the edge of your toenail. It doesn't hurt to touch that up at home a few days later. A good $20 pedicure should last about a month, and even then, the polish is usually intact. It's just that your toenails grow and it starts to look funky.

A lot of places will do a polish change for $5 or so, which means you don't get the whole pampering routine, but you do get rid of the chips (and can get a whole new color if you like).

Clearly, I totally indulge in pedicures all the time, at least when it's sandal season (and nothing makes Chacos look more girly than pedicured toes in the river). It is the one thing I do for myself in order to stay sane. And it is worth every single penny.

I laughed at this just picturing Jonathan saying it. Then I had Molly read it out loud to me in her best Jonathan voice and it was even better.

Good times. Enjoy your girliness, Jonathan!

No.

I like to get a pedicure once a year before the summer.

Just think, if you saved just 4 dollars a month for the year you would have enough money for a (ridiculously nice) pedicure. Or you could save ten dollars a month january-march in just the nick of time to have enough for a like you said "master pedicure."

Doesn't it put a whole new spin on "foot-washing" and Jesus washing the disciples feet?

It did for me!
